Europe Private Access to Art and Culture

Glyndebourne Opera Festival and Cornwall’s Gardens

The international opera festival in Glyndebourne is not only known for highest artistic quality but also for its very British atmosphere: the legendary picnic on the lawn during the elongated intermission. You will be staying at the elegant Relais & Chậteaux Hotel Gravetye Manor from where you will walk on the traces of Virginia Woolf and the Bloomsbury Group. England is rich in history, culture and landscape. On the route to and from Cornwall through different counties you have the chance to see scenic routes, marvelous manor houses, extraordinary cultural history and antiquities like Stonehenge, Bath, Exeter and the important Salisbury cathedral just to name a few. In Cornwall you will focus on the beautiful gardens with their fascinating design. Cornwall is the most western part of South England with a unique mild climate which allows for subtropical and gigantic flora and rare indigenous plants. In St. Ives you will visit London’s Tate Museum. The modern museum building is located above the beach with a wide spectacular view. Barbara Hepworth, the famous British sculptor, lived in St. Ives. Her former studio and sculpture garden is a small gem you should not miss.  

Historical Germany

Northern Bavaria is full of incredible historical treasures like the medieval town of Bamberg with its unique historic centre  (UNESCO World Heritage), Bayreuth with its magnificent Magravial Opera House (UNESCO World Heritage) and the famous Rothenburg ob der Tauber with its medieval charm. One can admire the spectacular Giovanni Battista Tiepolo frescos in the Würzburg Residence Palace built by the baroque star architect Balthasar Neumann (UNESCO World Heritage) and the fantastic masterpieces of late 15th century sculptor Tilmann Riemenschneider. A special highlight will be a private reception by Count von Schönborn Wiesentheid in the magnificent Weissenstein Palace, hosting one of the most exquisite private old master collections. After two nights in the Friedrichsruhe Castle Hotel and excursions to the Hohenloher Land, you will continue to the charming town Eltville in the heart of the Rhine valley wine area, where you will enjoy a private wine tasting at one of the most decorated vineyards. A private boat tour through the Upper Rhine Valley (UNESCO heritage site) will bring you close to one of the most famous landmarks in Germany. Here you will experience how knights and ladies lived in the medieval times. Count Jakob von und zu Eltz who owns this gigantic castle now in the 34th generation will lead you through his outstanding property.

The main focus of our tour will be the contemporary art scene with visits of galleries and their owners, like the inventor of the New Leipzig School Gerd Harry (“Judy”) Lybke of Eigen + Art, the renowned photography gallery Kicken,  artists’ studios and exciting private contemporary collections. Several of the world’s “must see” museums are located in Berlin on the Museumsinsel (Museum Island): The Neue Museum, spectacularly renovated by David Chipperfield hosting legendary Nefertiti as well as the Pergamon Museum with the entire Pergamon altar and the Babylon gate, just to name a few colossal pieces. Further collections include the Bauhaus Archive as well as the Hamburger Bahnhof, Berlin’s contemporary museum. It is comprised of the private collections of Friedrich Christian Flick, Erich Marx and Egidio Marzona. Another highlight is the collection assembled by media tycoon Christian Boros and his wife Karen in the a former World War II bunker, which he purchased. He lives in a penthouse on top of this building inspired by Mies van der Rohe's famous Barcelona pavillion. Berlin also boasts world class architecture: Sir Norman Foster, Renzo Piano, Frank Gehry and Daniel Libeskind, just to name a few, have all created beautiful buildings and monuments in the past years. No trip to Berlin would be complete without visiting Potsdam and the Sanssouci Palace, former residence of famous Prussian King Frederick the Great, as well as the Glienecke Bridge where the spies were exchanged during the cold war era. 


The island of Sicily is located just at the tip of the Italian boot.
